Job Summary:
The Lead Data Center Engineer is responsible for overseeing and executing data center operations, including rack and stack, cabling, labeling, equipment installation, and maintenance. This role involves planning, scheduling, and assigning work to the team while ensuring efficient and organized deployment of hardware infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining high operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Rack and Stack: Lead the installation, configuration, and decommissioning of servers, network devices, and storage systems.
  • Cabling & Labeling: Manage structured cabling, ensuring proper routing, termination, and labeling for easy identification and troubleshooting.
  • Work Scheduling & Planning: Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and track progress to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to data center technicians, ensuring adherence to best practices and operational standards.
  • Equipment Deployment: Coordinate the setup and maintenance of power and cooling requirements for data center infrastructure.
  • Inventory & Asset Management: Maintain accurate records of equipment, track inventory levels, and coordinate procurement when necessary.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all cabling, labeling, and hardware installations comply with industry standards and company policies.
  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve hardware, network, and connectivity issues promptly.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with network engineers, system administrators, and vendors to support infrastructure requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement best practices for efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data center operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in rack and stack procedures, structured cabling, and network infrastructure setup.
    • Knowledge of power and cooling requirements in a data center environment.
    • Experience with inventory management and asset tracking tools.
    • Familiarity with networking concepts (switches, routers, firewalls) and basic troubleshooting.
    • Understanding of ITIL frameworks and best practices.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    • CompTIA Server+
    • BICSI Installer Certification
    • Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking certification
    • Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) or equivalent
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and install hardware components weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in a data center environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed

Annual Salary Range is depending on experience. The compensation range reflects the Company’s reasonable expectations at the time of posting.  We consider a number of factors when making individual compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, and other business needs.  [This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program]
