IT Security Pre-Sales Engineer
The Opportunity: We are seeking an IT Security Pre-Sales Engineer to help customers identify cybersecurity needs and shape practical, scalable solutions. This customer-facing role partners with Technologent’s sales organization to connect security requirements, business priorities, and risk-management objectives with appropriate technology and services.
Working with Account Executives, technical and delivery teams, and security partners, the engineer leads discovery, develops solution architectures, presents recommendations, and supports opportunities from initial qualification through technical validation and close.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted cybersecurity advisor and partner with Account Executives to identify customer initiatives, technical requirements, business risks, and security opportunities.
- Lead customer discovery, assessments, workshops, and architecture discussions; evaluate current environments and translate business, security, and regulatory needs into solution recommendations.
- Engage stakeholders from security engineering and architecture through IT leadership and executive teams; communicate technical concepts and business value clearly.
- Support opportunity strategy and qualification, technical presentations, demonstrations, workshops, RFP/RFI responses, security questionnaires, and customer objections.
- Support Proof-of-Concept and Proof-of-Value activities, technical validation, and competitive sales situations; communicate opportunity status, risks, dependencies, and next steps to the sales team.
- Design practical, scalable security architectures across security operations (including SIEM and SOAR), endpoint (EDR/XDR), network (including NDR, firewalls, and segmentation), identity (IAM/PAM), Zero Trust, SASE, cloud, data protection, vulnerability management, email, application/API security, threat detection, cyber resilience, and emerging AI security.
- Develop high-level architectures, bills of materials, licensing requirements, solution components, and implementation assumptions; help define proposal and SOW scope, dependencies, deliverables, and exclusions.
- Ensure proposed solutions are technically feasible and can transition effectively to implementation and operational support; collaborate with delivery teams to confirm requirements, scope, and commitments.
- Advise customers on security roadmaps, technology gaps, modernization, compliance, risk, and operational maturity, considering the relationship between technology, people, processes, and governance.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity manufacturers and technology partners on workshops, demonstrations, assessments, solution validation, configurations, licensing, and pricing; maintain relevant partner competencies and certifications.
- Collaborate across sales, architecture, Professional Services, Managed Services, Security Operations, and other teams; share cybersecurity expertise and enable the sales organization through training and opportunity support.
- Maintain current knowledge of cybersecurity threats, vendors, technologies, frameworks, and market trends, including developments in cloud security, identity, data protection, automation, and AI.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise technology sales and working directly with Account Executives and customers.
- Broad knowledge of enterprise cybersecurity architecture, technologies, and operational practices, with experience designing or positioning solutions across multiple security domains.
- Strong understanding of security technologies such as SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, IAM, PAM, Zero Trust, network security, cloud security, vulnerability management, and data protection.
- Understanding of enterprise infrastructure, networking, cloud platforms, identity systems, applications, endpoints, and data architectures.
- Experience leading customer discovery and translating business and security requirements into technical architectures and recommendations.
- Experience supporting customer presentations, technical demonstrations, workshops, POCs/POVs, proposals, RFP/RFI responses, or Statements of Work.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and standards such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, ISO 27001, and Zero Trust principles.
- Experience with cybersecurity manufacturers and technology partners; experience in a reseller, VAR, systems integrator, cybersecurity integrator, or technology consulting organization is strongly preferred.
- Strong presentation, written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to communicate with technical teams and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities, work collaboratively across sales and delivery teams, and independently drive technical work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel to customer locations, Technologent offices, vendor events, and industry conferences as required. This is an in-office position for employees who live within 35 miles of a Technologent office.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, security architecture, technical pre-sales, solution architecture, consulting, or a related customer-facing technical role.
- Relevant certifications are preferred, including CISSP, CCSP, CompTIA Security+, GIAC, Microsoft Security, Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, Fortinet, Cisco Security, Zscaler, Okta, CyberArk, Splunk, SentinelOne, Wiz, or other relevant cybersecurity manufacturer certifications.
